Top 100 of the World's Best Chocolate: 2023-2025 Edition

Like you, we don’t rely on hype or empty claims when it comes to finding the best chocolate on the planet. Instead, we look to the most respected voices in the industry — and then add the voice that matters most: yours.
That’s why our World’s Best 100 Chocolates ranking now combines results from three of the most prestigious chocolate award programs:
-
The Great Taste Awards (Chocolate Category)
These are the “Oscars” of the chocolate world — judged by independent experts, sensory specialists, and seasoned chocolate tasters. Each of these awards has its own unique approach, but they share one thing: a deep commitment to celebrating craftsmanship, quality, and exceptional flavour.
We compiled results from 2023 through 2025 and gave each award equal weight in our scoring system. If two chocolates landed with the same number of awards, we broke the tie using our own sales data and verified customer reviews here at Hello Chocolate. This way, the list reflects not only what the experts love, but also what real chocolate lovers buy again and again.
Why This Matters
Since 2012, the ICA has brought together the world’s best bean-to-bar makers and chocolatiers, while the Academy of Chocolate has been shining a spotlight on innovation and heritage since 2005, and the Great Taste Awards have long been the world’s gold standard for fine food recognition. Combining all three gives us the broadest and most balanced view of excellence in chocolate — across continents, styles, and flavours.
And as chocolate obsessives ourselves, we can tell you: the winners never disappoint.
Where to Start
If you’re a chocolate lover — or looking for a truly unique gift — you could start with recent champions such as:
- Vigdis Rosenkilde Piura with Nibs 70% (Norway) - number one chocolate in our list, and also the ICA Worlds Best Dark Chocolate with Inclusions 2024
-
Vigdis Rosenkilde Quellouno 70% (Norway) – ICA World’s Best Dark Chocolate 2024
-
Vigdis Rosenkilde Kiteni 70% (Norway) – ICA World’s Best Dark Chocolate 2023
-
Goodnow Farms Asochivite with Maple Sugar (USA) – ICA World’s Best Chocolate with Alternative Ingredients 2024
-
Feliu Pitaya De Mayo (Mexico) – a unique chocolate bar made with infusion of cactus fruits.
Our own tasting notes and sales data match the juries’ verdicts — these chocolates are standouts in flavour, craftsmanship, and presentation. They’re sophisticated, distinctive, and perfect for someone who sees chocolate not just as a sweet treat, but as a fine food worth savouring.
Something for Every Palate
We know tastes vary, so our collection spans everything from single-origin dark bars and award-winning milk chocolate to vegan options, and even some of the world’s best chocolate truffles and bonbons. Whether you prefer organic, dairy-free, American craft makers, or European heritage brands, there’s a place for you in this ranking.
Perhaps you’re drawn to the intense, layered depth of dark chocolate from Peru or Ecuador — often made with direct-trade cacao that supports local farming communities. Or maybe you’re intrigued by bold flavour infusions: whisky, maple, fruits, or spices.
What You Won’t Find Here
Mass-produced supermarket chocolate doesn’t make the cut. We work with brands whose founders are committed to sustainability, quality, and fair relationships with cacao farmers. Craft chocolate is challenging to make — it takes patience, skill, and a little bit of magic — but when it’s done right, the result earns a lifelong following.
Our mission is to guide you through the maze of established legends and emerging makers, so you can skip the mediocre and go straight to the extraordinary. Everything we offer is something we’d happily eat ourselves. We don’t sell “sugar” — we sell chocolate made from pure, often rare and noble cacao, one of the healthiest indulgences in the world.
Chocolate as an Art Form
We see fine chocolate the way others see fine wine, craft coffee, or artisanal cheese — as an art form worth understanding and appreciating. That’s why we continually taste, research, and refine our selection.
Even after more than a decade in the chocolate world, we’re still surprised and inspired by new creations. Every maker brings a unique vision, every harvest brings subtle flavour shifts, and every award-winning bar is a chance to taste a moment in chocolate history.
How to Use This List
Think of this Top 100 as the starting point for your own chocolate journey. Find a maker that resonates with you and try more of their range — not all of their great creations enter award competitions, so you might discover something wonderful that the juries haven’t yet crowned.
Note: This ranking features chocolate brands available on Hello Chocolate and is based on our interpretation of award results from the Great Taste Awards, the International Chocolate Awards, and the Academy of Chocolate Awards, combined with our own sales and customer rating data. For complete award lists, visit the official websites of each competition.

In addition to her hands-on involvement in the production process, Rosenkilde extends her passion for chocolate to educational initiatives. The subject proves to be captivating, considering the widespread love for chocolate among the general populace, juxtaposed with a lack of awareness regarding its production. Upon returning to Calgary, laden with cases brimming with cacao beans, Mark sought out a mentor in the intricate art of chocolate making.
