Origins and Beginnings
The story of Slitti begins in 1969, when Luciano Slitti opened a coffee roasting business in Monsummano Terme, in the province of Pistoia, Tuscany. His vision was simple: to roast and offer exceptional coffee that stood out from the standard fare.
In 1988, Luciano passed control of the company to his son Andrea Slitti, along with support from his brother Daniele. A couple of years later, in 1990, Andrea, driven by a burgeoning passion for chocolate, expanded the business to include artisanal chocolate production.
A Journey into Chocolate Craftsmanship
By 1993, Slitti had entered its first chocolate competition—a decision that marked the beginning of a remarkable trajectory in the world of fine chocolate. Since then, the brand has garnered awards consistently every year, building a reputation for uncompromising quality, craftsmanship, and flavor.
Commitment to Artisanal Excellence
At the heart of Slitti’s philosophy lies an artisan approach—meticulous care at every stage, from selecting cocoa beans to roasting, conching, molding, and packaging. The company emphasizes transparency in sourcing, consistently searching for premium beans and maintaining hands-on involvement in the production process.
A Cornucopia of Products
Slitti celebrates chocolate in many forms:
- Chocolate bars (“tavolette”) crafted with varying cacao percentages—from mellow milk to intense dark cocoa.
- Signature creations such as Lattenero (a milk chocolate with high cacao content) and Tortine (round chocolate discs studded with hazelnuts, almonds, or pistachios).
- Luxurious pralines, dragées, and spreads like Nocciolata (a hazelnut cocoa spread).
- The Fino De Aroma line—Slitti’s high-end collection using cocoa from renowned origins such as Ecuador, Madagascar, Peru, and Venezuela, with innovative roasting methods.
One standout product is the Lattenero 51% bar, frequently recognized in competitions and praised for its balance of richness and refinement.
Recognition and Global Reach
Slitti’s excellence hasn’t gone unnoticed. With more than 180 to 200 awards collected over the years, the brand is one of Italy’s most decorated artisanal chocolate makers.
Its flagship store in Florence, cafés, and retail outlets have turned into destinations for chocolate lovers. Meanwhile, online distribution brings Slitti’s creations to connoisseurs around the world.
A Chocolate & Coffee Legacy Continues
Rooted in Tuscany’s terroir and shaped by family tradition, Slitti’s evolution from coffee roastery to world-renowned chocolate house exemplifies dedication to quality and innovation.
Under Andrea and Daniele Slitti’s leadership, the company remains committed to expanding—now also producing ice cream and growing retail networks—without compromising the artisanal values and detailed craftsmanship first instilled by Luciano Slitti.
