Hello Chocolate · Curated ranking
The Best American Chocolate
American makers judged against the world at the International Chocolate Awards — ranked by score, sourced where we can. We rank only bars we'll stand behind.
How we rank: Every bar is scored against ICA results from 2022 onward. Where a bar has won multiple years, we use the highest official score. Only the 100 highest-scoring bars we can source appear on this page.
The best American chocolate has nothing to do with the names in the checkout aisle. It comes from a converted barn in Massachusetts, a railway arch in Oakland, a small room in Brooklyn — from a generation of makers who taught themselves to roast, and who now win at the International Chocolate Awards against countries that have made chocolate for centuries.
Every bar ranked below was scored at those awards, judged blind, and we rank by that score alone. Where we can source a bar, you can buy it here; where we can't, we tell you where to find it. It's the shortest honest answer to a question the aisle never lets you ask: is American chocolate any good? At the top, it's among the best in the world.
