Import VAT and Customs
Since 2021, parcels arriving in the UK from outside the country are subject to import VAT, and depending on value and contents, customs duty as well. These are assessed by HMRC on arrival and are payable by the recipient.
Most carriers also charge a handling fee for collecting the VAT on HMRC's behalf, typically £8–12. That fee is the carrier's, not ours, and it isn't included in the shipping charge you pay us.
We declare every parcel accurately with full commercial documentation, which is what keeps clearance moving. If a carrier contacts you for information or payment, respond promptly — parcels held for unanswered queries are usually returned or destroyed, and we can't recover them.
Delivery Times to the UK
Parcels travel by air from Atlantic Canada and clear customs on arrival. The estimate in the table reflects a normal clearance; a parcel selected for inspection takes longer, and neither we nor the carrier can predict which parcels those will be.
Delivery to the Highlands, the Scottish islands, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man may take longer than mainland addresses.
What You Can't Buy on the High Street
Almost everything in our range comes from makers with no UK distribution at all — Cacaosuyo in Peru, Vigdis Rosenkilde in Norway, Cacao Hunters in Colombia. These are International Chocolate Awards winners that a UK buyer would otherwise have to order direct from each maker, one country at a time.
The exception is Duffy's, which is made in Lincolnshire and included here because it belongs in any serious ranking of the world's best bars, wherever the buyer happens to live.
